Winter has dealt us a huge blow yet again. Snow, snow, ice, and then more snow.   I hope everyone is hanging in there and taking it all in stride.

Feeling a little blue this time of year is not that uncommon.  According to MayoClinic.com, less light during the winter months can cause depression or seasonal affective disorder (SAD). Treatment for seasonal affective disorder includes light therapy (photo therapy), psychotherapy and medications. Addressing the problem can help you keep your mood and motivation steady throughout the year. Some symptoms of SAD are:
- Depression
- Hopelessness
- Anxiety
- Loss of energy
- Social withdrawal
- Oversleeping
- Loss of interest in activities you once enjoyed
- Appetite changes, especially a craving for foods high in carbohydrates
- Weight gain
- Difficulty concentrating and processing information

If you think you may have SAD, contact your doctor to see what treatment options he may recommend.

I would like to encourage everyone to stay positive and focused. Spring will come, it does every year! In the meantime, continue to exercise and doing things that make you feel good.

Stop by Fitness Together for a pep talk and a workout and you will immediately feel better. Let us be your ray of sunshine!
